If the weather is nice outside, then in virtual reality, of course!
A 3d-impressions of my own hand (a hobby that got out of hand shall we say) of the design that I was allowed to make for a detached zero energy house in the beautiful countryside of Brabant. The mass structure is freely inspired by the principle of the long-gabled farmhouse with characteristic lean-to at the rear. In the design, the lean-to extends beyond the end walls to form a covered terrace on one side and a carport with storage on the other side of the main mass. The color of the wooden cladding may be chosen slightly differently upon realization, but for the impressions I thought this shade was appropriate.
From sketch to complete permit application in 8 weeks, thanks in part to doing as much work as possible in-house. Only for the constructive substantiation by Joep Tiebosch of Goudstikker De Vries and the MPG calculation by Handel Bouw Advies B.V., I engaged external know-how. But things like Building Code Review and EPG calculation I like to do myself on these kinds of projects. That’s what I call architectural engineering.
Clients and architect were already enthusiastic, and the building code committee was also very pleased with the design, so now we hope for a prosperous permitting process!
