Last Friday I drove to the construction site in Diessen to take a look at the pouring of the Hectar foundation floor. This literally forms the basis for the zero energy house that, after a challenging period of preparation, will be built in the last weeks of this calendar year.

It was fascinating to see how the complete foundation and first floor were realized within one week. In just under an hour and a half on Friday afternoon, all the steel-fiber reinforced concrete was poured, the floor was neatly finished and the crew could return home.

It was the first time I applied such a foundation floor in my projects. And I certainly hope it won’t be the last time, because the Hectar foundation floor is a beautiful foundation concept that quickly and (not unimportantly) without linear thermal bridges creates a foundation and floor on which it is easy to continue building. In this particular project, this will be in the form of a complete wood frame shell that will be installed within the next few weeks.
