Last June 1, Orangerie Mattemburgh celebrated its 20th anniversary. A special milestone for Frank and Marloes van Akkeren, who have welcomed countless guests at this unique location.
I am still only too proud that in the period 2014-2018, together with Koen van Heeswijk and Wessel Zonneveld and so many other ‘co-builders’, I had the opportunity to make a major contribution to the special buildings on the estate.
Namely, in that period we realized the new restaurant wing at the national monumental orangery, a new gate in the garden wall of the vegetable garden and, as the final piece, the ‘plant cathedral’, a new winter storage for the special tub plant collection that the estate has.
With a smile on my face I can still see Koen and me sitting on the terrace at the orangery when we first visited the Mattemburgh to explore the location. And with the same big smile, I think back to the gourmet hospitality and passion with which Frank always put something delicious on the table at a project meeting.
In the 20th anniversary of Orangerie Mattemburgh, I saw a great opportunity in the past few days to finally put those three special projects neatly on the website. Photos and a “short” project description. Short is an extremely relative term in this regard, because there is so incredibly much to tell about these projects. ‘What the heart is full of….’ shall we say.
