detached energy-neutral wood frame house

I was recently on a project visit in Diessen with clients Carrine and Bas for whom I was asked to design their 2020 detached energy-neutral home in the Brabant countryside.

A lifetime-proof, energy-efficient, wood-frame house was the design brief at the time. And although it still proved quite a challenge to realize the program of requirements within budget, in the end it was successful.

It has been a while since I went to see this project. I was curious to see how the house ended up. Talked at the kitchen table about the process of then to the result of now. Then, together with clients, took a tour in and around the house.

That Friday was not sunny, therefore no bright blue sky as a backdrop for a small round of photos. Doesn’t matter, because “we have what we need when we use what we have,” according to Edgar Cahn.

A female blackbird quietly watched my round of photos from the highest point of the house and, with her light brown plumage, evidently felt right at home.
