When Kruytzer Optics and Optometry moved to the beginning of the Kerkstraat in Horst in 2016, I had the opportunity to work with KOENVANHEESWIJKarchitects to design the upgrading of the storefront on the first floor.
The renovation at the time already took into account the development of apartments above the store. Since 2018, I have had the privilege of being involved as an architect in this development which is being realized in two phases.
The first phase involves the conversion by division of the existing upper house into two maisonette apartments. In the second phase, a number of newly constructed apartments will be built on the left side of the upper house.
Work is currently underway to remodel and upgrade the existing upstairs apartment, both inside and out. The gable roof overhangs have since been removed and the outdated roofing has been replaced with new ceramic tiles, with skylights installed to provide daylight to the second floor apartments. The existing facade openings in the masonry facade have been enlarged so that they will soon accommodate new well-insulated aluminum window frames. Finally, the masonry facade will be rendered in a light warm gray color completing the make over and making the existing upstairs apartment once again part of a high-quality entrance to Church Street.
